Meet Soraya Calavassy
Soraya shares her biggest career learnings, what drives her and how she finds inspiration.
As a predominantly female led brand Rockwear aims to build up the women around us and celebrate their achievements. International Women’s Day (IWD) is a day close to our hearts at Rockwear. IWD is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Instead of just one day to highlight the importance of this day we thought…why not celebrate all month by sharing the stories of inspirational women to our #ROCKWEARNATION.
Meet Soraya Calavassy – A powerful overachiever who co-founded the well-known PR agency Neon Black at the age of 25.

Let’s get to know you in 5 words- what are they?
Energetic. Curious. Chatterbox. Empathetic. Structured.
What drives you?
I’m driven by being just 1% better every single day. That’s not only professionally, in my personal life and when I’m working out and being active!
Who is an empowering woman that you looked up to growing up?
My mother - she is strong, fierce, brave and courageous.
What led you down this career path? Did you always see the bigger picture and envision what you have created today?
From my early 20’s I always said I wanted to start a PR agency by the age of 30. As a little bit of an overachiever, we achieved the goal five years early and started Neon Black at the age of 25! For me, it’s the passion for media, storytelling, people and making a real impact for businesses that drives me.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
International Women’s Day is a big day of celebration, recognition and empowerment. It’s also a day of transformation and tackling the big issues that are affecting women now and in the future!
Where do you find inspiration? In a fast-moving industry how do you help yourself& team to stay inspired?
My inspiration and motivation comes from wanting to achieve big things in partnership with our clients. Inspiration can come from anywhere; the things around us, TikTok and other campaigns.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Luck is only part of the equation. Luck will come your way, but you need to work hard to convert luck into action and success!
What is the biggest learning curve you have had in your career?
So much of being a great leader is driven by moods. Your mood, and the mood you create for others. Managing your mood is a conscious decision and something I work at every single day to create a positive and empowering environment.
What is next?
In an ideal world, professionally we are looking at growth, exciting client campaigns ahead and continuing to build a premier communications agency. Personally, its pushing myself four times a week at reformer pilates, hopefully some travel plans and living in the moment and staying present each day!
